ace of wands
The Ace of Wands is the infinite potential of all action & spirit. This is raw power, pure vitality. The possibilities are endless. However with all Aces, we must remember that until we harness, direct & focus our energy, it remains...potential. Power must be used in order to be powerful.
two of wands
This is Mars (The Tower) in Aries (The Emperor). If we look at the tower as a situation doomed to fall apart, we can interpret the two of wands as two situations the Emperor must deal with. One of the situations is falling immediately & will land in his home if he doesn't do something NOW. The other situation attached to his foundation is secure, although perhaps internally crumbling, likely because the Emperor is ever unable to focus on stability at home. He holds the world in his hand, as if to tell the incoming wand: I'm already dealing with so much! But both because of home & also in spite of it, the Emperor has to handle the energy falling in on him. It appears he has a choice but truly he doesn't. Sometimes these things just happen.
Real life interpretation: 1) While saving money to move, your car breaks down. To fix the car means cutting into your savings, which undermines all your hard work. But to leave the car broken means you'd miss work, lose your job & be unable to save more. 2) An old flame returns from abroad passionately longing to see you; this coincides with an unrelated & yet totally frustrating period in the relationship with your long-term spouse. To see the flame would be a moral burden; to ignore the flame would only intensify the feelings unspoken between you. Both options would cause more pressure internally & at home.
three of wands
This is the Sun in Aries (Emperor). We see that the Emperor is no longer at home; we also see that two wands stand behind him, indicating there are (at least) a couple of actions he'd prefer to leave in the past. You live & you learn; he holds a new wand. He does things differently now. He stands at the shore in the light of the sun, waiting for his ships to come into harbor in the early light of morning. There are hands waving out in the water; yet the Emperor does not swim out to save anyone. He has learned that he must leave his feet on solid ground; he can't jeopardize his security for every single emergency. His ships are not only coming in the morning, they also ride in on the waves of his mourning, for the sacrifices the Emperor has had to make.
Real life interpretation: 1) You've finally saved enough to move into your new apartment & your cousin, whose parents you were living with (rent free) for the last six months, wants to move in with you. She's given you gas money plenty of times to take her to work, but she also wears your clothes without asking and is currently between jobs. She figures you should say yes because you love each other but you say no (with love). She's mad for a while. 2) You're doing great in your new job when an attractive coworker begins flirting with you. Suddenly there is tension between you and his ex, who is your supervisor. You change your schedule so that you have minimal contact with either of them.
four of wands
Four of wands: This is Venus (Empress) in Aries (The Emperor). Now that the Emperor has learned not to dash about fixing this problem & that, his actions have stabilized. He has a routine. He is consistent, dependable, so much so that his actions (wands) are self sustaining & can provide shelter for others. Of course this comes with more responsibility (An exclusive relationship? A promotion? Buying instead of renting?). The Empress who depends on the Emperor is ecstatic; they can finally build something together! (Gender is non-specific, remember wands are about energy) However the Emperor (in the red) seems sad; all this growth and stability is contingent upon his actions. He has become the foundation & things are piling up on top of him. That's a lot of pressure. The walls are closing in.
Real life application: 1) You're a poet but you get tired of submitting work only to get constantly rejected. You use your writing degree to get a great advertising job & suddenly your money is coming in fast. You're doing so well that you get a promotion; everyone expects so much of you that you rarely have time to sleep, let alone write anymore. You want to quit or at least take a break but that would be foolish; you've upgraded your entire lifestyle & you can't afford it without your job. 2) You've been dating a woman for a long time. You love her, you're comfortable with her, but the passion is gone. You've both invested your youth & it would be a waste of years to walk away. You don't want to break up necessarily...so you get married. Congrats!
five of wands
Five of Wands: This is Saturn (World) in Leo (Strength). The Emperor can only do so much. Eventually the walls close in and come crashing down. The Emperor was never meant to carry the world on his shoulders. Actions begun in the spirit of responsibility & provision distort into excess, manipulation, & control. Since none of these are worthy or self sustaining actions, the entire structure is thrown into confusion. It falls because of instead of actions that fortify the structure, there are actions that weaken the foundation. A castle of bricks becomes a house of cards.
Real life application: A man is paying his family's bills; his large salary has also afforded him a mistress. He pays her bills as well, & takes her on expensive trips. However these distractions affect his work performance. He is given less responsibility, makes less money & has to cut back spending. His mistress notices the decline & threatens to tell his wife unless he keeps funding her lifestyle. He takes out more credit lines to augment his salary & keep peace at home. However eventually his wife notices the extra spending & familial debt he has incurred. She pieces the rest together & he has to face the same consequences he tried to avoid, except with less money, more debt & zero trust.
six of wands
Six of Wands: This is Jupiter (Wheel of Fortune) in Leo (Strength). Remember the Wheel of Fortune is out of our control; it is literally the hand of fate. This explains why this is the first card we see with a person on a horse; we are meant to understand that whatever success this person experienced, they didn't achieve it alone. They were "given" victory the same way it may seem others around them were "given" defeat. Everyone gets their turn on top of the Wheel & on the bottom. This is why we must be kind when we are on top & persevere while on the bottom; each requires uncommon strength.
Real life application: You and your best friend work together at a tech company. Your friend is brilliant with big dreams & spends most of his time developing his own apps. His work performance suffers while you breeze through the ranks. Tragically the boss dies of a sudden heart attack and you get the top job. The first order of business? You've been ordered to fire your friend for his lack of focus & company dedication. You fire your friend, but you give him a huge severance. He funds his own apps, makes lots of money & hires you a few years later once the company you work for ( with a bad habit of firing their best & brightest) goes bankrupt.
seven of wands
Seven of Wands: This is Mars (the Tower) in Leo ( Strength). When the Wheel of Fortune pushes things our way, everything seem so easy. We just ride from glory to glory. But what about when when the Tower strikes? How does our strength hold up when the going gets tough, when shit's falling apart, when we're thiiiiiis close to snapping out & losing our cool? Are we still winners when all is lost? Are we merely the sum of our actions? Can we still stand when no one stands with us? Can we dig deep & find a strength we never knew we had?
Real life application: You are a star athlete, well known for being at the top of your game. For a long time things have come easy- money, relationships, fun, success. One night after drinking too much at a party, you get into a terrible car crash that ends your career & changes your life forever. You lose your job, endorsements, friendships; your money dwindles & then runs out. You realize you can't keep living in the past & you have to move forward, but you have no idea who you are without the identity of "Star athlete" or "crash victim." It's a terrifying time & a daily struggle to face yourself.
eight of wands
Eight of wands: This is Mercury (the Magician) in Sagittarius (Temperance). Please be quiet, meeting in progress. Someone in eight of wands energy should hang this sign around their neck. There is intense, fast moving communication happening here, between you, yourself & God. You might want to order food; you could be here awhile. Topics on the Agenda: 1) Who am I? 2) What the hell just happened to my life? 3) Whose fault was it? 3) How do I forgive myself? 4) How do I forgive others? 5) What happened that I didn't want? 6) What didn't happen that I did want? 7) What is my true purpose? 8) How do I get back on track?
Like I said, issa long meeting...
Real life application: Google: Dave Chappelle after he turned down 50 million from Comedy Central to do a 2nd season; Tina Turner after running away from Ike Turner with $.30 in her pocket; Malcom X in Mecca realizing holy has no color
nine of wands
Nine of Wands: This is the Moon (High Priestess) in Sagittarius (Temperance). The Emperor, wiser, warier, stands spiritually, energetically prepared to handle anything that comes next. He has been through an internal battle & come through stronger on the other side. His head is bandaged because his idea of himself is healing. He understands that "as a man thinketh, so is he." Where as he used to think he was alone, his time together with spirit has proven that regardless how dire the circumstances, he is never alone. He holds the one wand & leans on it slightly; this person has learned to lean on spirit in order to handle whatever comes next. He has also learned to handle 1 thing at a time, because he is only one person, & God wouldn't give him more than he can handle.
Real life application: A young, single mother has a nervous breakdown. The bills have piled up, her partner is absent, her kids are loud & demanding, & she hasn't eaten or slept in days from stress. One morning she ignores the school & work alarms, & continues to sleep. At first the kids are ecstatic (no school!), then concerned, then worried when there is no response from mom. Eventually they call a family friend over; mom reveals she's at her limit and doesn't know what to do. The friend takes the kids for a week, to give mom some time. While alone, she realizes things don't have to get to this point if she can remember she's not superwoman & learns to ask for help. She adjust her perception of herself from "single mother," to "supported person," & realizes that 1) the world will still carry on if she takes breaks & 2) no matter how bleak it seems, Spirit has her back. She resolves to take better care of herself going forward. She remembers that she has to be her own first priority & uses that foundation as a basis for all future actions.
ten of wands
Ten of Wands: This is Saturn (World) in Sagittarius (Temperance). Remember in the five of wands when the world was on the Emperor's shoulders & everything fell apart? This was because the Emperor's idea of himself was based on his ego. He thought he could handle more than he could because he thought himself more than a man. Now the Emperor has a spiritual understanding of his true self & his true power; he realizes he is just a man, & it is this humility that allows the strength of God to move through him. Paradoxically, now that the Emperor knows that by his ownself he accomplishes nothing, his submission to spirit allows him to accomplish anything.
Real life application: A woman has dreams of opening the best restaurant in the world. She works hard, saves her money & when the doors open, people flock to her tables. She's making good money, yet she notices a growing population of homeless people rummaging her trash every night. At first she runs them off because their presence makes her establishment undesirable & it affects her bottom line, but one days she sees young teens looking for food & her perspective changes. Whereas she used to run them off, she now invites them in, let's them dine for free. Her regular customers slowly vanish & soon little money is coming in. She is forced to close her doors. She is unfazed; she knows in her spirit she did the right thing. She continues to cook meals from home to feed as many in need as possible. Soon word of her charity spreads. Donations begin flooding in. Over time, she is able to reopen her restaurant for paying customers AND feed the hungry. People try to give her the credit but she says, "all I did was cook."
